Entry Requirements

The Miss Mobile Bay Pageant and Miss Azalea Pageant encourage young women who wish to earn scholarship money to further their education to participate.  Contestants choose a platform or community service effort that is close to their heart.  To enter you must be a single woman (never been married or had a marriage annulled) no younger that 17 (high school senior) and no older than 24 as of Sept. 30, 2007 and a high school graduate as of July 1, 2007.  Miss Mobile Bay contestants must live, work, or attend school in Alabama.  Miss Azalea contestants must live, work, or attend school in Mobile County or Baldwin County.  Areas of competition include interview (25%), Talent (35%), Swimsuit (15%),  Evening Wear (20%), On-stage Question (5%).

Participants in Miss Teen Mobile Bay & Miss Teen Azalea must be no younger than 13 and no older than 17 (high school junior).  Teens must live in Alabama.  Teens will compete in interview (30%), talent (40%), fitness (10%), evening wear (15%), and on-stage question (5%).  For fitness, teens simply model a t-shirt and shorts of their choosing.  The teen division serves as a fundraiser for scholarships.  Teens are encouraged to sell good-luck lines for the program book.  The winners advance to Miss Alabama’s Outstanding Teen and possibly Miss America’s Outstanding Teen!

If you would like more information, please complete the preliminary application which will be forwarded to directors.

Judging Criteria

Each contestant is judged immediately after each event by the selection panel. The score will range between 1 and 10. The high and low scores for each contestant are discarded in each area of competition. The Top 5 names at the completion of the competition will be resubmitted to the judges who will each individually assign a ranking to the top five contestants.  This final ballot determines the winner.

Talent - 35%

Teen Talent - 40%

Each contestant will perform a talent presentation not to exceed 2 minutes. Talents may include, but are not limited to, vocals in every medium, dance in all forms, gymnastics, instrumentals, and drama.

The talent competition distinguishes the contestant’s skills and personality, interpretive ability, technical skill level, stage presence, and totality of all elements (e.g. costume, voice, choreography).  There will be no dual talents in the entire pageant…if two contestants wish to perform the same song, the first contestant returning all completed paperwork will reserve the song.

Interview - 25%

Teen Interview - 30%

The panel of judges meets with each contestant for a private interview. Questions may range from current events to personal goals and interests. Questions may also come from the contestant fact sheet and platform questionnaire.  Criteria used for scoring the interview include: overall first impression, personal appearance, personality, intellect, vocabulary and grammar, and responses in context.

The interview begins with a 45 second introduction by the contestant. Judges are given 10 minutes to ask a variety of questions. Finally, the contestant has a brief opportunity (45 second maximum) to clarify an earlier answer or make a final statement. Contestants should wear business attire suitable for a professional job interview.

Swimsuit (Fitness) - 15%

Teen Swimsuit (Fitness) - 10%

Criteria for scoring the swimsuit/fitness competition include: overall first impression, statement of physical fitness and health, and sense of confidence. The swimsuit (a modest one-piece or two-piece) and the young woman wearing it should complement each other.  Contestants may not be on stage longer than 20 seconds.  Teens simply model a t-shirt and shorts.

Evening Wear - 20%

Teen Evening Wear - 15%

On-Stage Question - 5%

Criteria for judging the evening wear competition include: overall first impression, sense of confidence, personality and stage presence, posture, grace, appropriateness of the evening wear, and sense of attractiveness. The Evening Wear ballot is scored after the contestant models.  The on-stage question ballot is scored after the contestant answers the on-stage question based on a current issue.  Judges keep in mind the qualities and attributes necessary to fulfill the duties of Miss Azalea or Miss Mobile Bay, Miss Alabama and Miss America.
